Although this Lawrence Journal-World piece was linked in the "Regional Headlines" section, it might be something interesting to discuss.

The Center for Education Reform, a pro-charter school movement, gave Kansas an "F" when it comes to state law and charter schools.

"Some states have been pioneers in this effort, and others are far behind. Kansas’s law is abysmal and should be completely reformed and overhauled,” Jeanne Allen, president of the Washington, D.C.-based The Center for Education Reform, said in the Kansas Legislature today.

Still, as someone who covered education as his first job, it's a story that interests me because:

• Kansas is one of the more conservative states in the union. However, it appears to have law on charter schools that are not of the conservative position. Or at least conservative friendly.

• When the Maurice R. Holman Academy was formed, there was discussion concerning the problem of the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools District being responsible for school and the personnel there.

The idea of reform in education is a good one. However, it appears both public schools and charter schools have their hands tied because of state law in Kansas.
