Note: We had this poll question last fall when the issue of outsourcing in public school districts began to become a hot topic locally.

With the issue heating back up after yesterday's Kansas City, Kan., Board of Education budget retreat, it would be interesting to ask it again.

Also, feel free to comment if have some to share.

In recent years, I have not read of any ultimate savings that don't also include a downgrade of services and quality. We need to remember that the private company has the same costs and can only make money (the primary objective of a private business)by cutting service and/or quality. And that is what they do. One can hardly blame them--nevertheless, do we want to encourage lower salaries and lower quality?

I think this would be absolutely crazy! I can only imagine the truancy numbers jumping up without our security officers.
I don't really want strangers as custodians in my schools.
I'm not even sure I understand considering outsourcing the buses, since we own our own transportation department. I personally would be petrified everytime my child got on a Duram bus, assuming I let them get on one.

Board member Richard Kaminski is the one who is trying to ram this ridiculous thing through. Interesting, since his family's security company would be a BIG benefactor of the outsourcing.

Yes I heard that statement over and over again that richard kaminskis security company would benefit from this. he doesn't seem to care about the working wy country residents working in our schools. they provide secure places for our children to go everyday. they provide nutriontinal meals, breakfast and lunch everyday why would anyone think of taking these things away from our children. To benefit him and his family? We need people on the board to care for our children, workers in wy county Next election let us think of this situation

Maybe it's time for some of the parents to speak up!

The outsourcing idea is crazy! I did not know about the security company owned by Kaminski...very interesting indeed.
I do not want strangers cleaning my school. I am afraid of USD 500 property going out the door. The buildings would never be the same if this happened. As a taxpayer in KCK, this is just wrong. Also, who wants strangers driving our busses? No way!

Alana why did you change your earlier post or is this a different one?

I agree that outsourcing is totally a bad idea. I also agree that all of this is personal as it has to do with our kids, our teachers, our custodians, our security officers, our transportation providers and most importantly the future of OUR community!

Piper thinks they have a problem now with "nonresidents" coming into their schools, just wait to see what happens if all these changes happen in District 500.

I think 4 days school weeks would be ridiculous. I also am pretty sure I'd figure out how to get my kids to school, because I've heard WAY too many bad things about Durham to put my kids on one of their buses.

I too am stongly against outsourcing our children's care to individuals that have no stake in our community. have we not learned from the big corporations that have outsourced our livlihood to overseas markets. Those employees that we have spent our tax dollars training to provide quality service to our children should not be sacrificed for the less qualified individuals.Stop this before it's too late.....time for the sellouts to to voted out!Remember who yall represent!!!!!!
