Wizards look to keep playoff hopes alive
The Kansas City Wizards (8-12-8, 32 pts) host Expansion club Seattle Sounders FC (10-7-11, 41 pts) Saturday night in Seattle’s first-ever trip to Kansas City as an MLS club.
The Wizards will look to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win, though other results around MLS could eliminate Kansas City before their match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. CT. The Wizards defeated Sounders FC 1-0 April 11 at Qwest Field, giving the club their first-ever loss and scoring the first-ever goal against Seattle in MLS regular-season play. Midfielder Davy Arnaud was the hero for Kansas City that day, hitting a long-range, game-winning strike in the 80th minute.
Kansas City will regain the services of captain and central defender Jimmy Conrad after the veteran was an unused substitute as the United States clinched a berth in the 2010 FIFA World Cup with a 3-2 win last Saturday in Honduras. Conrad was also an unused sub in Wednesday’s dramatic come-from-behind tie against Costa Rica that forced Costa Rica into a two-game playoff with Uruguay for a place in the World Cup. Conrad has played in 23 games this season for the Wizards, missing matches through U.S. National Team duty.
He has one goal on the season and has helped anchor Kansas City’s youthful back line.
Two of Major League Soccer’s top scorers will face off tomorrow night, as Fredy Montero of Sounders FC and Josh Wolff of Kansas City take the field. Montero has 12 goals on the season to lead Seattle, tying him for 3rd place in the League. Kansas City’s team-leader Wolff has equaled a career high with 10 strikes this year, tying him for 7th in MLS.
Saturday is Ladies Night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The Ladies Night ticket package includes two (2) bleacher tickets, two (2) glasses of wine, one (1) fruit and cheese plate and one (1) pink soccer ball for only $49. A portion of the proceeds for each package sold will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Greater Kansas City Affiliate. The Girl Scouts will also participate in a fun-filled night of activities followed by a sleepover on the field at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, which will end at 8:00 a.m. the following morning. Each Girl Scout will each receive a commemorative patch for attending.
For more information or to purchase either of these ticket packages, call the Wizards at (913) 387-3400. To purchase single-game tickets outside of these ticket packages, visit www.Ticketmaster.com/kcwizards.
