Two separate accidents near I-70 and 57th Street
Local response crews and the Kansas Highway Patrol are responding to two separate car accidents near Interstate 70 and 57th Street.
The first accident, initially reported at around 5:10 p.m., involves four cars and happened on westbound I-70 near 57th Street. Injuries are unknown, but emergency response units have been dispatched to the scene.
Accident number two was reported at around 5:55 p.m. and happened just a half-mile up the road just east of 57th Street.
Like the first accident, injuries are unknown at this point.
Those on the scene suggest weather played a role in both accidents.

K-7/I-70 ramp scheduled for reopening
The eastbound Interstate 70 to Kansas Highway 7 entrance ramp damaged July 2 is scheduled to reopen for travel tomorrow after rush hour.
The bridge closed after an oversized semi-trailer damaged the bridge after it traveled underneath it.
Since then, repair work has been done to the bridge. The bridge's girders were repaired by steel heat straightening process.
Opening of the ramp is expected after the morning rush hours tomorrow, weather permitting.

Crash closes K-7 entrance ramp
A car accident has caused the Kansas Department of Transportation to temporarily close the Kansas Highway 7 to eastbound Interstate 70 entrance ramp.
No word on any injuries with the accident. The closure was announced by the Kansas Department of Transportation about 15 minutes ago.
It's unknown when the ramp will be reopened.
More information when available.
UPDATE 3:38: The incident is being described as "overload striking a bridge," KDOT reports. The bridge in the area is being inspected and the ramp will be reopened once inspection is complete.

Beginning today, I-635 ramps to be closed overnight
Evening and early morning commuters will have to take note of several ramp closures involving Interstate 635, Interstate 70 and State Avenue this week.
Beginning on Monday, portions of the exit ramps on I-635 at I-70 and State Avenue will be closed overnight for pavement marking work.
Work, weather permitted, will be finished on early Friday morning at 6 a.m.
Monday, June 28 – 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Full closure of the westbound I-70 to northbound I-635 ramp.
• Full closure of the westbound I-70 to southbound I-635 ramp.
• Full closure of the westbound State Avenue to northbound I-635 ramp.
• Full closure of the eastbound State Avenue to northbound I-635 ramp.
Tuesday, June 29 – 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Full closure of the westbound I-70 to northbound I-635 ramp.
• Full closure of the northbound I-635 to westbound I-70 ramp.
• Full closure of the eastbound I-70 to northbound I-635 ramp.
• Full closure of the eastbound State Avenue to southbound I-635 ramp.

Several updates to I-70 pavement project
Drivers who use westbound Interstate 70 from 94th to 110th Street will have to prepare for more traffic work.
Beginning Friday at 8 a.m., all access to northbound and southbound Interstate 435 from I-70 west will be closed most of the day as construction crews work on reopening I-70 west to two lanes of traffic.
The work on I-70 West should be completed by 8 p.m., with the lanes reopening when the work is completed.
At 1 p.m. on Friday, the I-70 west to the northbound I-435 ramp will reopen to all traffic until mid-to-late July. The ramp will close then.
On another related traffic note, the westbound I-70 to southbound I-435 ramp will not reopen and will be closed until late July.
The northbound I-435 to westbound I-70 ramp will also be closed until July.

Wisconsin teenager injured in KCK accident
A 14-year-old teenage girl was injured in an accident on Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County Monday afternoon.
Miyah Brooks of Milwaukee, Wisc., was injured after the car she was riding in rolled over near the State Avenue exit ramp to eastbound I-70. The driver of the vehicle, David Walker, decided at the last second to exit southbound Interstate 435.
Walker and his son, David Walker, Jr., were not injured in the accident.
Brooks was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident was report to the Kansas Highway Patrol at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Construction on I-70 causing headaches
If you can hold off traveling on westbound Interstate 70 near 78th Street, it might be a good idea.
The highway is packed between 78th Street and 72nd Street. Construction is to blame.
Traffic is backed up and is expected to remain backed up for at least a little while longer.

TRAFFIC ALERT: I-70 lanes closed on Friday
Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday morning, eastbound Interstate 70 will have two left lanes closed on the 18th Street Expressway.
The lane closures will last from Friday morning and will reopen to traffic at 6 a.m. next Monday, June 21.
Travelers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and expect delays.
All work is weather permitted.

Traffic Note: Two lanes on I-70 closed next Friday
Two right lanes on eastbound Interstate 70 and the 18th Street Expressway will be closed next weekend.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 11 to 6 a.m. on June 14, the two right lanes on I-70 on the 18th Street Expressway bridge will be closed for repair work.
The eastbound I-70 to northbound 18th Street Expressway will also be closed for the weekend.
Meanwhile, the southbound 18th Street Expressway to eastbound I-70 ramp will be closed just that Friday from "daylight to dusk hours."
Delays should be expected and drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes for the weekend.

Nine injured in I-70 accident
A two-vehicle car accident near Interstate 70 and 57th Street resulted in nine injuries.
All nine who were injured were in one vehicle, which rolled over. Five adults and four children were injured.
Four of the adults were transported "non-emergency" to area hospitals, while one adult was transported "emergency." Three of the children involved in the accident were transported with minor injuries, while one was transported with serious injuries.
The children are 17 years, eight years, four years and five months in ages. The eight-year-old was transported via an emergency rescue unit.
The accident happened shortly before 9:30 tonight.

Three weekend highway accidents three
Three accidents were reported on Wyandotte County highways this weekend.
• Jacqueline Lebow, a resident of Raytown, Mo., was injured after her car lost control and rolled over on the Interstate 435 ramp to Parallel Parkway. The car's speed was too fast, according to the accident log, and she was transported to the Overland Park Regional Hospital with an injury. The accident happened after 6 p.m. last Saturday.
• An Edwardsville, Kan., resident was injured in an accident Southbound I-435. Heidi Wilson lost control of her vehicle and struck the inside guardrail on the highway near Interstate 70. She was taken to the hospital with a minor injury. The accident happened in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 8.
• A Kansas City, Kan., resident was injured after he lost control of his vehicle while traveling on Eastbound I-70. Jimmie Green lost control of his vehicle and reportedly went airborne, landing on 57th Street. Green was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital. The accident happened at around 5 p.m. last Saturday.

Bonner resident injured in KCK crash
A Bonner Springs, Kan., resident was injured on a highway accident this weekend.
Carrie Galvan lost control of her vehicle near Interstate 70 and 57th Street due to a wet road created by this weekend's rain.
She struck the median barrier at around 9:50 a.m. Saturday morning. She was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital with minor injuries.
No other vehicle was involved in the accident.

UPDATE: Eight-year-old dies from earlier car accident
Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department officials released more information about today's accident on I-70 East at I-635.
Among the worst news – an eight-year-old has died as a result of injuries.
Three children were ejected from a car, according to witnesses on the scene. An eight-year-old girl, 10-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl were transported to the emergency room of Children's Mercy Hospital.
Meanwhile, a two-year-old was also transported to Children's Mercy Hospital, along with an adult, who is listed as the mother of the two-year-old.
At the hospital, the eight-year-old girl died from injuries.
According to Craig Duke, battalion chief and spokesperson for the KCKFD, four children were in the vehicle, along with two adults.
Here's his statement (via email) on the accident:
Fire crews on scene within five minutes reported one vehicle accident with two adult occupants and four children occupants between the ages of two and 12 years of age.
Information received from witnesses indicated that three of the children had been ejected from the vehicle during the accident. Off-duty JOCO Sheriff Officer and KU Medical Center Nurse on scene administering CPR to one of the victims. Crews on scene reported 3 victims unconscious upon their arrival.
One EMS unit transported 1 female (8 yrs old) emergency to Children’s; one EMS unit transported 1 male (10 yrs old) and 1 female (12 yrs old) emergency to Children’s Mercy. One EMS units transported 1 male (2 yrs old) and mother of 2 year old to Children’s Mercy.
Eight year old female transported emergency later succumbed to her injuries.
No update on status of other patients.

Still no official crash report for I-70 pileup
Here's another sign that Sunday's vehicle pileup on Interstate 70 near Bonner Springs was beyond normal.
The Kansas Highway Patrol hasn't placed the report on its crash log Web site yet.
Earlier this week, the crash that involved 38 cars on Northbound Interstate 435 was placed online.
No official statistics in terms of how many cars were involved and how many injuries were reported have been released yet.

I-70 reopened
Both Eastbound and Westbound Interstate 70 have been reopened near the Kansas Highway 7 interchange.
It was closed for a number of hours today after a large pile-up.
