Conrad.jpgKansas City Wizards defender and captain Jimmy Conrad has been named the 2009 U.S. Soccer Foundation/MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Year Award.

While this is the first time Conrad has won the league award, he's been named Kansas City's Team Humanitarian of the Year three times.

"It's an incredible honor to be thought about in these terms,” Conrad said, “and I know my parents will be very proud of me."

Conrad works with local schools, youth organizations and MLS W.O.R.K.S initiatives in the Kansas City area. He speaks with students about teamwork and presents information to them on setting goals.

“The best gift someone can give is themselves and their time,” Jennifer Currier, Midwest Regional Walk Director for Autism Speaks said. “Jimmy is busy in the community, spreading awareness about Autism and promoting healthy activity among children. He honestly cares about the kids and helps them have fun at clinics and other events.”

Conrad shares the award with Chicago's Logan Pause.

Kansas City Wizards defender and team captain Jimmy Conrad will rejoin the U.S. National Team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers as the U.S. looks to clinch a spot in the 2010 cup.

Conrad will be on the roster for two upcoming games – a road trip to Honduras for Oct. 10 and an Oct. 14 game against Costa Rica in Washington D.C.

“It’s always an honor to represent the United States,” Conrad said. “The team is looking to clinch a spot in the 2010 World Cup in these last two qualifiers, and I’m excited to be a part of that.”

The U.S. is in prime position to qualify for the 2010 World Cup, currently sitting in first place in group play. Conrad appeared twice during the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
