POLICE BEAT: KCK police seize 50 grams in marijuana
Kansas City, Kan., police officers discovered over 50 grams of marijuana on someone at N. 27th Street and Brown Avenue.
The bust was made on Monday night in the area at about 5:30 p.m., when police reported to the area. The scene of the crime was cleared an hour later.

Child killed in bus accident, teen identified
The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department has released the identification of the nine-year-old killed last week in a bus accident on Thursday, March 4.
Patience N. Cary, a third-grader at John F. Kennedy Elementary School, was killed after she was hit by a bus last Thursday on 66th Street and Parkview Avenue.
Rebecca Vanderpool, 15, has been identified as the victim of the fatality accident on Sunday at 55th Street and Oak Grove Road.
Both families have been identified.
The KCKPD's Traffic Support Unit and Critical Collision Response Team and Major Case Unit are investigating both incidents.

KCKPD officer placed on administrative leave
A Kansas City, Kan., police officer has been placed on administrative leave pending on an investigation in a shooting incident on the 1900 Block of N. 5th Street.
The officer, described as a 10-year veteran, was conducting a vehicle stop when one of the car's two occupants exited the vehicle with a weapon.
There was a struggle over the weapon between the officer and suspect. Then, the officer used his duty weapon and shot the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital and is listed under critical condition.
Another occupant of the vehicle was arrested without incident and brought into custody.
The police department's Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office are investigating the matter.

KCKPD statement on bus accident
The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department released a statement within the hour on today's fatality bus accident involving a nine-year-old girl from the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools District.
The department is still investigating the exact circumstances on how and why the accident happened.
Here is the full statement:
On Thursday, March 04, 2010 at about 0820 hours, the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department responded to 66th Street and Parkview Avenue on a report that a child struck had been struck by a school bus.
Upon arrival, officers were informed by EMS personnel that the child was deceased. At this time, the circumstances surrounding the accident are unknown.
The identity of the child will not be released pending positive identification and family notification. The incident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit/Critical Collision Response Team.

KCKPD releases photos of man warranted in burglary
The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department has released photos of a man wanted in a burglary that occurred at 59th and Leavenworth Road on Jan. 17.
On Jan. 20, the photos displayed below were taken of a man who attempted to cash stolen lottery tickets.

POLICE BEAT: Granny's Attic burglarized
Granny's Attic, a business on Leavenworth Road, was robbed this morning of $160.
A burglar entered the business forcefully, shattering the store's front glass door. With the damage done to the door valued at $800, it's five times the value of the cash stolen.
According to Kansas City, Kan., police report, the burglary happened sometime after 2 a.m. this morning.
Granny's Attic is located at 6000 Leavenworth Road.

POLICE BEAT: Multiple cars broken into during basketball game
A car thief broke into or attempted to break into several vehicles during last Friday night's Harmon-Wyandotte basketball game at J.C. Harmon High School.
Fortunately, it appeared only one valuable was stolen – a Dell Laptop.
Based on the time on the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department's report on the spree, it appeared the burglaries happened at around halftime of the game.
The report indicates nine separate people were victims of the thefts.
A case of criminal damage was also filed at the scene.

POLICE BEAT: Four tires slashed
A woman's car had its four tires slashed last week.
A Kansas City, Kan., police report shows the tire slashing occurred on the 2000 Block of N. 5th Street on Feb. 17. The cause of damage is approximately $400.
The incident has been one of the few reported cases of tire slashing this month.

POLICE BEAT: Cash, shotgun stolen from home
A home was burglarized on the 3000 Block of S 39th Street.
Two people entered the home in the early morning hours of Feb. 22. and took about $2,500 in money. They also stole a shotgun from the residence.
The crooks entered by force at approximately 1:30 a.m. No one was harmed in the burglary, which was classified as aggravated by members of the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department.
A case of criminal damage was also filed.

KCKPD looking for Chevy Caprice
Responding to a call of an armed disturbance on 19th and Tennyson Street, Kansas City, Kan., police are looking for a white Chevy Caprice.
Four people were in the vehicle, per witnesses.
Multiple calls to the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department say one of the car-riders had a gun and was threatening to shoot at someone or something.
One call said shots were fired, but police on the scene indicated that no shots were fired. No one at the scene was injured.
The license plate number is 464-COQ.
