UG approves two Strawberry Hill renovation projects

  • Unified Government Board of Commissioners

The Unified Government Board of Commissioners approved two change of zone requests for new residential projects on Strawberry Hill.

City Vision Ministries (CVM) will be in charge of the projects: the first a duplex at 412 Ann Avenue and an apartment loft plan at 805 and 807 N. 5th Street.

The duplex on Ann Avenue will replace a single family unit, along with the apartment complex.

"City Vision Ministries looked at the option of making this a single family unit," said John Harvey, executive directory of CVM. "But it makes it very expensive for just a single unit and the best economic use for it is a duplex."

The apartment loft renovation at 805 and 807 N. 5th Street will host apartments that will cost between $500 to $550 to rent out. Between $150,000 to $200,000 will be invested in the apartment renovation.

Both properties had previously served as duplexes.

"These buildings have been vacant for some time," Harvey said.

Carole Diehl, president of the Strawberry Hill Neighborhood Association, said the group's board voted to support both projects.

"John Harvey and City Vision Ministries have always done good things for us," Diehl said. "We whole heartedly support this measure."

Harvey said CVM has invested over $9 million in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood.

Both projects received unanimous support from the board of commissioners.
